What are the main types of Mathematics, in layman's terms?

I'm not sure about the different types of mathematics, but I'm in much the same boat as you. I'm even older than you (27) and I'm doing a refresher course in Maths. I'm doing it with the OU (they have some good basic courses to start you off). Have faith in yourself and don't be discouraged if you don't understand something straight away. I'm finding things a lot easier to understand now that I'm a bit older and more mature. Contact your local college/Uni and discuss your options with them. Good luck.
