Was last night's MTV awards Kanye West incident part of the script?

You took the words right out of my mouth. EmpTV will do anything to boost their ratings. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if some MTV or Viacom executive called Kanye, or pulled him aside before the show, and suggested that he pull some asinine stunt.
