Oakland to retire Henderson's #24 -- is this the right time?

After seeing your other question about Maddox, I thought about and have come to the conclusion that it isn't necessary in either case to wait. The players have to wait for Hall of Fame (5 years), so for a tertiary honor like a retired number, let them have it now. Whether honors are delivered boom-boom or not, the players (like these two, and others) ought to have it done and be done with.
